Horses Need to Return to Forest in Order to Survive
When you compare these two photos you will understand why the horses are having problems with overweight and lack of exercise. The top photo was taken on the farm this January (2002). The horses are surrounded by lush greenery which is encouraged with fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides. In the bottom photo is the natural habitat of the wild horses. There is plenty to eat, but it is not at all as rich as what is found on the farm. The horses have to walk a lot farther to get enough to eat. This keeps them from getting overweight, and keeps their hooves trimmed naturally. The forest is also beneficial because it provides shade from the sun. The pinto horses all are suffering from sunburn on their white faces.
